I have mentored at Lanier Obstetrics and Gynecology for this school year. My mentor’s name is Tina Palmer who is the head of the office at Lanier OBGYN. On a day to day basis, I normally go in and interact with the patients in different ways. Some days, I take the patient’s vital signs. The vital signs include weight, blood pressure, and a hemoglobin test. On other days, I also observe the appointments with the doctor and nurse in the patient rooms and watch ultrasounds. I clean the rooms as well as send out lab test results to the patients and record the results on the office’s file. Lastly, I place mammogram orders at the hospital and I answer phone calls when needed. I have learned so much more than I ever expected. Not only did I learn new skills needed in my future career goal, but I have learned how a doctor’s office runs, the needs of the employees and how to interact in different situations at the office. All of these experiences will help me succeed in the future and now I know what to expect in a professional workplace.
